The Benefits of an Easy to Follow Daily Routine.

Many Men’s health type magazines and blogs just like EVERYbloke offer a lot of advice surrounding fitness, exercises, work, nutrition, recreation etc, and this can often be confusing and conflicting. For example one article will tell you about the benefits of Weight Training and another will tell you to do Cardio rather. One will say “Eat Meat” and another will talk about the health risks of too much meat etc etc. I think its important to realise that these articles are mostly given as personal anecdotal advice and not to be followed religiously. Instead, you have to take the advise that is relevant to your personal situation and incorporate it into your own life, based on your own goals. Add them to your daily schedule. Sticking to a realistic and manageable routine keeps you on the straight and narrow, and maintains discipline in your nutrition, training and learning, among other aspects of life you may be trying to improve.

Further in this article I’ll share my personal general schedule that I have found to be successful in my daily life. This routine incorporates various activities and practices that help me achieve balance and growth in multiple aspects of life, including health, fitness, work, nutrition, recreation, and learning. By following this schedule consistently, I have experienced numerous benefits that have positively impacted my overall well-being. Let’s explore the reasons why this balanced and successful routine has been instrumental in my personal growth.

Health and Fitness:

Engaging in a 15-minute exercise routine in the morning and incorporating stretching breaks throughout the day helps improve physical fitness, flexibility, and posture.
Regular exercise and outdoor activities in the evening contribute to cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall vitality. The morning meditation practice helps me cultivate mindfulness, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity, setting a positive tone for the day.

Work:

Structuring dedicated work blocks and maintaining focused work periods allows me to be productive and efficient, completing tasks and projects effectively. Taking short breaks and incorporating stretching routines during the workday helps prevent mental fatigue and improves concentration and productivity.

Nutrition:

Starting the day with a balanced breakfast provides essential nutrients and energy for optimal performance throughout the day. Enjoying a nutritious lunch break with a wholesome meal and incorporating quick exercises helps recharge and sustain energy levels. Having a well-rounded dinner with lean proteins, whole grains, and vegetables supports healthy eating habits and provides nourishment for recovery and repair.

Recreation and Personal Time:

Engaging in personal hobbies and activities in the evening promotes relaxation, creativity, and self-expression, contributing to overall well-being and fulfillment. Allocating time for reading personal development books and listening to audiobooks allows for continuous learning and personal growth.

Sleep:

Establishing a consistent sleep schedule with a recommended 7-9 hours of quality sleep ensures adequate rest and rejuvenation for optimal physical and mental functioning.

By following this balanced routine, I have experienced increased productivity, improved physical fitness, enhanced mental well-being, and a greater sense of fulfillment in various aspects of life. The combination of healthy habits, structured work periods, nutritious meals, recreational activities, and continuous learning has contributed to my personal growth and overall success. It is important to note that individual preferences may vary, so it is essential to customize the routine to align with personal needs and goals.

Morning:

6:00 AM – Wake up

6:15 AM – Hydrate with a glass of water and take my medications.

6:30 AM – Practice a 10-minute meditation of listening to high energy MOTIVATIONAL youtube videos. This gets my brain focused on my goals

6:45 AM – Engage in a 15-minute exercise routine:

5 minutes of dynamic stretching (arm circles, leg swings, torso twists)

10 minutes of bodyweight exercises (push-ups, squats, lunges, plank)

7:00 AM – Bathroom and Shower and get ready for the day

7:30 AM – Enjoy a strong cup of coffee to kickstart my morning

7:45 AM – Make and Eat a balanced breakfast:

Usually scrambled or messy eggs with tomato, cheese and either a piece of ham or bacon on whole grain toast. I always eat some fresh fruit (banana or Apple ) and maybe a small pot of Greek yogurt

8:00 AM – Commute to work:

I drive, so I listen to educational audiobooks on the Audible App. I sometimes listen to TED Talks or interesting Podcasts on Spotify, but I prefer AudioBooks.

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM – Work:

I Focus on my main tasks and projects at work, and try to not let my phone distract me.

11:00 AM – Break and Stretch:

I Take a 10-minute break to stand up and do some stretches. I Perform a quick stretching routine targeting areas like neck, shoulders, back, and legs.
Example stretches: neck rolls, shoulder stretches, standing forward bend, standing quad stretch

I then get a cup of coffee and back to work.

11:10 AM – 1:00 PM – Work:

Continue working on my tasks and projects , crushing it like a G!

Afternoon:

1:00 PM – Lunch Break and Coffee:

I Take a 30-minute lunch break to nourish my body and relax. I do this away from my desk, and get outside if possible.

I normally enjoy a nutritious meal that i have prepped the night before. Nothing with too many carbs as they make you sluggish later in the afternoon. (e.g., grilled chicken with quinoa and roasted vegetables)

I always have a cup of coffee after my lunch to recharge. This is my last cup for the day.

I usually then perform a quick exercise routine before returning to work. this gets the blood pumping and is invigourating.

  • 10 bodyweight squats
  • 10 push-ups against a wall or on the floor if comfortable
  • 10 walking lunges

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM – Work:

I carry on smashing my work – focused on achieving goals and staying away from distractions

3:00 PM – Break and Stretch:

I usually take a short mid afternoon break for 10 minutes to refresh your mind and stretch my body, similar to the one in the morning. I avoid the coffee machine. I stay disciplined.

3:10 PM – 5:00 PM – Work:

I normally focus on tasks and projects for the final period of the workday and prepare for the following day.

5:00 PM – Commute back home:

Once again I Listen to an audiobook or uplifting music playlist during the commute. My favourite audio book on AUDIBLE at the moment is Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life.

Evening:

6:00 PM – Exercise or Outdoor Activity:

I like to mix it up. I’ll go to gym 3 nights a week ( 2 nights are weight training and the other is a circuits fitness class ) and the other 2 days in the work week I make sure i go for a walk.
I follow up my evening exercise with a protein shake.

7:00 PM – Nighttime Shower and Hygiene Routine:

I Take a relaxing shower for 10-15 minutes and go through my nighttime hygiene routine.

7:30 PM – Prepare and enjoy a nutritious dinner:

Always a portion of protein with vegetables, a small portion of carb, with a fresh salad ( mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and a light vinaigrette dressing )

8:00 PM – Personal Time and Hobbies:

I usually catch up on some Netflix, or social media, YouTUbe channels etc.

9:45 PM – Wind Down and Relaxation:

I practice a calming activity like journaling, practicing gratitude , meditating, etc.

10:00 PM – Go to sleep:

I aim for 8 hours of quality sleep to rest and rejuvenate for the next day

RINSE AND REPEAT


It’s important to remember that the routine I have shared is my personal schedule, tailored to my specific needs and goals. While it has been successful for me, I encourage you to use it as an example and guideline to create your own routine that encompasses the aspects you wish to improve in your life.

We all have unique preferences, schedules, and priorities, and it’s essential to personalize your routine accordingly. Take into account your work hours, commitments, and personal interests. Experiment with different activities, exercises, and practices to find what resonates with you and brings you the most fulfillment and growth.

Remember, the key to a successful routine is finding a balance that nourishes your mind, body, and soul. Continuously assess and modify your routine as needed, adapting it to your evolving goals and circumstances. By personalizing your routine, you can create a blueprint for success that aligns with your individual aspirations and helps you thrive in all areas of life.

So, use this example as inspiration, but make it your own. Embrace the journey of self-discovery, and may your personalized routine empower you to reach new heights and achieve the life you desire.
