Oops, Axle and Ball Joint Replacement

Author: admin | Filed under: Motors

Sorry I missed you last week, I had this video half done and didn’t get a chance to finish. Well we have our 1990 Accord again, I’m getting some mileage out of this one but I don’t mind cause there are still quite a few of these on the road and a few of you have claimed ownership to one of these 4th generation Accords, so enjoy. A couple of things to note, I could do a video on taking out the wishbone bolt alone, I’ve run into a few problems here such as a rusted bolt that won’t come out of it’s bushing as one example, perhaps future videos will show how to overcome this problem. I thought this one went together well despite the fact that you might be getting sick of Honda Accords, I still have more from other makes that I haven’t edited or posted yet. I have more to this video as well that may show up in DVD form at one point, YouTube only gives me 10min to work with but I think that is enough to get you started and not loose interest. Perhaps you could help by submitting questions in the form of text responses or what I would really like is a video response to something I’ve put out there, that would be great. 2. @biddymagee It’s a very useful addition. To be honest I really don’t know the price but you can find them just about anywhere tools are sold, you might try googleing it to see if you can find a list of prices and manufacturers.

  3. that air hammer looks a useful addition to a workshop…..how much approx Eric?

  8. @julestertmc I don’t have control over the vehicles that come into the shop or the repairs I do to them. I will say however that if I get one of those in I’ll do what I can to make a video for you.

  10. Can you please show how to replace a ball bearing on a Acura mdx 2006 or a Pilot 2006, same power train……….

  14. @trunk516 The axle didn’t “snap” it just came apart when it was overextended when the lower ball joint broke. Nope, not a female driver either. The tire wear is most likely due to the alignment issues caused by the loose suspension parts and a lack of rotation. Thanks for your comment.

  16. look at that tire wow

  17. Judging by the shape of that tire..that thing has been wobbling for a while. And more than likely led to that axle snapping. My guess is woman driver…eh??

  18. Good info.

  20. @jvmopar Jack stands were used in this video when possible. Thanks for the comment.

  21. Again a jack stand is strongly recommended. There are far too many deaths caused by vehicles that fell off a jack.

  22. GREAT video man!!!!

  23. I have a 94 accord with around 150k miles on it, and when im stopped and then slowly roll onto the gas, i get a pretty noticable vibration until i get to around 15 or 20mph then it goes away. what could be causing this? i think its maybe the cv joints or possibly the motor mounts going out on me. what you think?

  24. EricTheCarGuy says:
  25. @GorgonTheMagicMan No, all you would need to remove for that is the lower ball joint, axle nut, and possibly the wishbone bolt to remove the old axle and install the new one.

  27. Hey Eric, If I want to replace just the CV axle shaft, would I still have to take apart the entire assembly? Or are there steps I can leave out? Thanks :)

  29. @tommychevytommy LOL, I like that, I like that a lot. Thanks for your comment.

  33. @88quadzilla88 Watch the video I did on repairing the Jeep suspension I believe it’s similar to what you are working on.

  34. EricTheCarGuy says:
  35. @TwIiAnOkWU I would check the timing both mechanical and ignition as well as for any slack in the belt or chain. You will want to address any issues with that engine noise before you start on the suspension as it could leave you stranded if it’s serious.

  37. I have a 1976 F-100 2WD and im wondering if i need any special tools and approx time to replace the centerlink bar .A video of this would be so awsome.Your video’s are awsome.

  38. So eric I am getting a “click/knock” noise when driving but only when I let off the gas. This only started to occur after I put in the new head on my block (old one had bent valves and no compression). I haven’t taken it at high speeds because I’m scared, and only have driven in like 1 mile total. I know I have bad shocks/springs because of the lack of suspension and response to bumps on the road in the past. I am replacing my shocks and springs today but should I change the CV axels as well?

  40. @JesusEdwardV6 A bad day indeed, at least you know how to fix it. Good luck.
