what will happen if i use a 12v 1A to a 12V 1.5A electronic gadget?
Author: admin | Filed under: Gadgetsit is a ac adaptor for a external drive rated 12V 1.5A busted, the available i’m seeing aftermarket in my place is a 12V 1A. will this work or not? should I get the same or higher?

If the current drawn by the drive is less than 1A ,you can use the new one.Watch for the rise in temperature in adapter.
Get the same on ebay.
If the equipment needs 1.5A then a 1A supply won’t do it, or get very very hot trying.
Try and get one around 2A this way it shouldn’t go wrong again.
It still needs to be 12V
If the device uses close to 1 amp it will probably make the supply run hot and suck the voltage down.
If the old one say 1.5Amps then I would believe it.. suppliers usually give as close to the minimum they can get away with.. and no more.
and get a replacement with at least this value of current output. Go look at Maplin.co.uk, they should be able to find you one with at least 1.5 output.
