Is it true that beer can be used as effective snail bait?

Yep, it’s true, I’ve used it myself. Plant some ordinary plastic cups in the garden, so that the rim of the cup is barely seen above ground. Fill each cup halfways with beer – I don’t know why, but snails are drawn to it, fall into the cups and drown.
Only in Australia…we all love beer over here.

Yes. Put the beer in a jam jar or bowl, bury them so just the top shows. You get more slugs and snails that way. They just love the smell and dive right in.
Shame to waste beer like that though!

Yes, it’s true, I’ve done this before, when you go and have a look at your cups in the morning, they’re full of dead snails – gross, but it doesn’t really solve your problem. If you’re trying to deter snails/slugs from your salad crops then you’ll never effectively manage it by this method, there are simply too many snails and slugs for you to capture.
A better solution would be to surround your crops with copper. Slugs hate this. Also you can use bark chippings, or decorative stone chippings. they hate that.
I also find that growing salad crops in pots helps. Even better, hanging baskets.

Yes, it works. And even better when the beer’s flat. The slugs can’t stand not to get in there and then they drown. I don’t have a slug problem, thank Goodness, because my dogs would drink the beer!
